Oh, my gosh--I just saw Benjamin Britten's opera "A Midsummer Night's Dream" over at WWU last night, and whenever the fairies were onstage, I thought, "I wish Masha and Christie were here with me!" You would have loved it. The music, the dancing, the scenery all captured that "wild beauty of a fallen world"--it was utterly splendid.

I particularly loved this:

The country of beauty is one of possibility, in which "desires are the memories of our future"(Rilke). A place of mystery and magic and the ever present danger of falling too completely--of losing that which brought us out to begin with and going native. Turning to the dark voices, or taking up with small gods and their pretty lies. Fairy tales draw us into this world, they open up avenues at our feet, teach us to walk quickly--to make our decisions and not look back at the brambles that grow up behind us.

Convicting. :)Jenna St. Hilairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04474588706124865006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6034855245900964602.post-9919267194137657852013-05-27T17:38:37.965-04:002013-05-27T17:38:37.965-04:00Yeah! And then I was like . . . hmmm, bonfires, midnight excurssions . . . and googled it. Yep, it's Midsummer Night. How could I forget _that_?Christiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18107748184124761940noreply@blogger.com
